English Premier Inn hotelchain to use RECO temporary passenger lift in London

Irish construction company Gilbert Ash Construction Ltd. is repurposing an existing building in London city centre to become a hotel for Premier Inn. The hotel will be completed in phases by Gilbert Ash, with Premier Inn subsequently taking it into operation.

Logistical solution for the temporary lift

The challenge for Gilbert Ash was to create a comfortable, safe and obstacle-free, fully accessible route from the reception area to the hotel rooms. This was necessary because the permanent passenger lifts will only be ready when all construction work has been finished. RECO Lift Solutions has resolved this by installing a seven-stop temporary passenger lift in the patio area. This refined RECO lift has an enclosed lift shaft which results in noise levels of only 45 dB. In addition to the hotel guests, the facility services are also using the RECO lift.

Installment temporary passenger lift by tower crane

Adjacent to the planned location for the RECO lift, a tower crane was located in the patio of the building complex. The tower crane was an asset in assembling the modular RECO lift. However, the basic module including the lift cabin proved to be too heavy for the tower crane. To resolve this issue, RECO removed the lift cabin from the basic module, leaving the total weight under 3500 kg. It took only two working days to install the temporary RECO lift.

Second time in London city centre

Following the installation of a RECO PP lift at Imperial College University (Kier Construction Ltd) in 2016, this is the second time that RECO has installed a seven-stop temporary PP passenger lift in London city centre. It proved to be no problem at all for PAX – the transport company based in Heerenveen that RECO is always happy to turn to – to deliver the lift modules to Cock Lane. Using three tractor-trailer combinations, the entire RECO lift was transported from Waddinxveen to London.

Local maintenance

RECO only uses standard lift components, enabling RECO lifts to be serviced locally throughout Europe. RECO Lift Solutions has been working together with Abbey Liftcare, based in Waltham Abbey (UK), for some time now to service the English market. If needed, they can fix small malfunctions quickly. Periodic maintenance of RECO lifts is carried out by RECO technicians.
